Interviewed on KimberlyElise.com

When I learn that phenomenal film and television actress Kimberly Elise (Beloved, Set It Off) is also a natural beauty, wellness and clean living advocate, I reached out to send my appreciation for her work. I was thrilled and honored when the reply came in with a request to interview me about Sacred Beauty and makeup for her blog!

Here's my interview by Leah Thomas for Kimberly Elise Natural Living:

After attending the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) Rebecca dedicated herself to using products that were safe, sustainable, and effective. The Kimberly Elise team chatted with Rebecca to learn more about the Sacred Beauty movement and how we can create radiant and healthy skin.

Q: What is “Sacred Beauty”?

Sacred Beauty is the inspiration for my live and online program, Sacred Beauty Salon Series. It represents the connection between our inner and outer beauty, as well as our connection with spirit energy. I believe our beauty is sacred and we should treat it with the thought and care it deserves. We only have one life in our amazing body, we must try to understand and honor it in every way we can. Through my program, I aspire to reawaken and redirect the commercialization of beauty.

Q: How has your plant-based diet helped with your natural beauty routine?

It has improved my skin, my health, and entire lifestyle. It has made me more conscious about what I put in and on my body, as well as the companies I choose to support. I adopted a plant-based diet to help clear up skin issues, which it did, but it also led me to feel so much more connected with nature, which makes me glow just thinking about it! I also believe that plants contain the perfect blend of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water that helps keep our skin clear, healthy, and radiant.

Q: What is your favorite way to highlight, and are you a fan of contouring and strobing?

I’ve always been a fan of highlighting for everyday makeup. It makes the skin look glowy and the eyes more awake. My favorite areas to highlight are under the browbone, inner corners of the eyes, top of cheekbones and cupid’s bow. I like to use both cream and powder products, depending on the skin type.

Contouring can be great when done in a subtle way, but it’s most suitable for on-camera viewing. On most clients, I will contour under the cheekbones and in the crease of the eye, but that’s about it. As for the recent trend, I think it’s way too much makeup for most occasions.

Q: What tips do you have for someone transitioning to a natural, sacred beauty routine?

Start off by swapping out products like skincare, foundation, and lip color for natural alternatives. I offer live personal makeup lessons in New York City and virtual makeup consultations, where I can help you choose the right products for your style and skin type. I also recommend signing up for Beauty Heroes, a wonderful, non-toxic beauty subscription box, to discover a healthy new product each month. You can transform your daily beauty routine into a Sacred Beauty Ritual by first making it your intention.

When you approach beauty from a place of self-love and appreciation, you will have a different experience. You can set the tone for this by creating a beauty space that’s clean, well-organized, and bright. Place a candle, crystal, or special photo nearby and send yourself positive energy each time you step into the mirror!
