Women & Aging: Rewriting the Narrative

This Women's History Month, one of the most powerful things we can do as women is to rewrite our narratives around aging.

As a makeup artist and wellness coach, I've seen countless women struggle with societal messages that we lose value and beauty with age.

But here's the truth: your worth isn't defined by wrinkles or a number. It's your confidence, wisdom, and experiences, all of which only deepen as we get older.

Instead of focusing on perceived losses, celebrate the amazing things you've gained. From hard earned wisdom to self-confidence, you have so much to be proud of!

I'm lucky to have parents who instilled the joy of embracing each birthday. Now, especially as a woman over 40, I continue this tradition of gratitude.

While aging isn't all smooth sailing (hello, reading glasses and hormonal chaos!), there's power in knowledge. When I began experiencing unexpected changes in my cycle, a quick Google search led me to the world of perimenopause, including the insightful book, Perimenopause Power by Maisie Hill.

Understanding these changes, along with self-care, has helped me manage my symptoms thus far. Overall, I’ve felt more balanced without the monthly disruption and honestly, I’m really looking forward to the next chapter, sans Aunt Flow!

Remember, every woman's experience is unique, but it's important to remember that you're not alone! Sharing stories and seeking support can be transformative.

So, let's rewrite the script together, celebrate our inner beauty, and live our best lives at every age!

Some questions for you to explore:

  • Do you celebrate birthdays? Why or why not?

  • Have you noticed changes in your menstrual cycle, mood, sleep or weight?

  • What are your favorite perimenopause resources?
